What is breast Augmentation?

Breast Augmentation

Many women are unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts. Breast augmentation surgery is a very popular procedure among women to enhance their cup size, get the look they want, and improve self-confidence and body image.

Three Different Types of Breast Augmentation

  • Breast implants can be filled with either silicone or saline. Both implants are considered safe for breast augmentation and breast reconstruction. Your surgeon might recommend one type over another based on several factors, including the anatomy of your breasts and your body type. Ultimately, the final choice is always yours.

    Silicone Gel-Filled Implants

These implants consist of a silicone outer shell and a gel-based filler. Silicone implants are stronger and have a more natural feel than saline-filled implants.

There are two types of silicone gel-filled implants:

    Silicone Gel Implants

These implants are filled with a cohesive gel that maintains its shape in all positions and doesn’t leak. They are also light and soft to the touch with a very natural feel. Silicone gel implants cost more than saline ones but also tend to last slightly longer.

    Gummy Bear Implants

These are teardrop-shaped gel-based implants, also known as highly cohesive gel implants. They are known to retain their shape better than other types while still being soft to touch. Due to their strength, they are less likely to rupture than other silicone or saline-based implants.

  • In addition to silicone implants, breast augmentation can also be performed by using autologous fat grafting. This involves extracting fat tissue from other parts of your body and injecting it into the breasts to make them bigger. Typical donor-sites used for fat grafting include the hips, the thighs, and the stomach.

For a moderate augmentation of the breast, approximately 100-200 ml of fat may be used per breast. If desired, the process can be repeated to increase the breast size later. Approximately 50-80% of the transferred fat will survive and remain permanently in the breast. The rest will be reabsorbed by the body. It usually takes about three months to see the final results of the operation.

Fat grafting may be a good option for women who want to avoid the risks of implants and/or desire moderate and natural breast enhancement.

  • Composite breast augmentation surgery is an advanced procedure combining breast implants and fat grafting. It is also known as hybrid breast augmentation. Composite breast augmentation may be the ideal procedure if:

    • You are looking for a more customized solution to breast implants

    • Your breasts are very wide apart or unsymmetrical

    • You have a very bony upper chest or thin skin tissue on the breastbone

    • You want to achieve maximum fullness in the upper breast while maintaining natural-looking results

    • Composite breast augmentation can enhance breast size more than fat grafting alone and provides more localized contouring than just implants. The combination approach offers a safe and reliable method for breast augmentation that produces more natural, customizable results.

Different Sizes of Implants

  • Anatomical Implant

    Anatomical Implant

The pad on implants with this kind of shape has a sandy matte texture that helps the pad not to move because it needs to stick with the tissue that is inside the breast. The operation of this kind of shape is usually a bit more complicated than the round implant procedure as it requires the surgeon to shape and size the breast after implantation correctly.

  • Round Implant

    Round Implant

Due to the different sizes and heights of the pads, these types of implants are round and flat at the base. They usually don’t look natural as the pad doesn’t slide on the side when someone lies down

Size

Emphasis is usually on the brand of the implant, but they usually measure between 100cc-800cc.

How to prepare

    • If you smoke, you should stop at least 4 weeks before surgery

    • Don’t drink alcohol for 2 weeks before surgery

    • Stop taking anything that can thin the blood such as aspirin, painkillers and anti-depressants 2-4 weeks before surgery

    • People with pre-existing medical conditions may need a medical certificate from their regular doctor

    • Inform the surgeon if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or require regular medication

    • Patients undergoing general anesthesia must not eat or drink anything for at least 6 hours before surgery

    • Avoid scheduling surgery during your periods

  • The incision site may feel sore for the first 2-3 days.

It is normal to feel that the implants are not part of your body at first. It can take 2-3 weeks for your breast implants to soften and begin to feel more natural.

Wear a sports bra or no bra at all for the first month. You can start wearing an underwire or push up bra after about 4-6 weeks.

Avoid physical exercise and lifting heavy objects for the first 3 weeks after surgery.
