Gastric Sleeve - too risky or worth it?
The Azurite team's preference is always preventative medicine and exercise regarding health and weight loss - but what if it becomes impossible for some individuals and their health is at severe risk? Well, that’s when we’d look into bariatric surgery, more commonly known as the gastric sleeve.
What is bariatric surgery?
Bariatric surgery is surgery that affects the stomach and how food is digested. It is designed to make the stomach much smaller, which causes the person to feel full after eating only a small amount of food. The surgery is done to help you lose excess weight and reduce your risk of potentially life-threatening weight-related health problems, including: heart disease, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Does Azurite offer gastric sleeve?
Yes - we do. Our highly skilled surgeons offer bariatric surgery in Malaysia. Packages start from 12,500 AUD and include all surgical expenses, and hospital stay for six days, and all testing and medication. Getting the procedure done in Malaysia is a fantastic option if you’re a client from Australia. Waitlists for the operation in Australia can be lengthy, and the amount you can redeem from medicare and private insurance may not be sufficient for your circumstances.
Am I good candidate for the procedure?
Bariatric surgery is usually offered to people who are very obese (with a body mass index over 40) or those with a body mass index over 35 who have other serious health problems like diabetes or heart disease.
However, we strongly only recommend this surgery for our clients who are serious about undergoing significant lifestyle changes and adopting an anti-inflammatory diet, exercising and taking supplements to address nutritional deficiencies, as the procedure can be challenging on the body. If you don’t make changes, you can increase your likelihood of developing deficiencies that can lead to other problems down the track.
Can I use my superannuation for the procedure?
Yes, you can get your GP to fill out this form and write a letter explaining how the procedure will improve your quality of life. We will then provide you with an invoice and supporting letter from the surgeon and you will apply via MyGov. Your GP needs to mention the costs and wait times of getting the surgery done in Australia to show that overseas is a better option.
